North American Or African Slavery

Forgive me everybody for being hard headed for this question I'm about to ask.

Why do you think that everyone talks about slavery in the south of North America rather than talk about slavery in the whole continent of Africa?

  1. Hmmm, that's a very good question. I don't even know where to begin. I think that the Africans are obviously ashamed and ridiculed. The thoughts of their ancestors going through all that misery angers them and it's best if it's not even brought up or discussed. And maybe only the south of the north american border talks about it because the U.S always had a state of mind that they're powerful and they can do pretty much anything. It's also in school curriculum's to teach children about it so they're knowledgeable and understand to that certain degree.

  2. I find people talk about slavery in North Ameerica more then in Africa because whwn the school board teaches about slavery they usually touch upon slavery in southern parts of the states. When slavery was in Africa the captives usually gave their lives a ransom so that they could be free while in the states some captives managed to escape. Besides slavery in Africa was much more intence then in the States.

  3. Simple, the United States history and our history happen to be tied together often. It also gives Canadians a boost in pride that we can say “HEY YOU THERE AMERICANS YOU GUYS HAD SLAVES THAT RAN TO US FOR FREEDOM. YOU GUYS ARE RACISTS AND WE R THE BESTEST PEOPLES EVER HURHURHUR".

At least that’s how I look at it, not that all Canadians are like that. Well except in February.

  4. It could be simply because we are here in the West, learning more about the South of North America is more relevant for the system. While for instance my family in Africa would have their education focus on slavery in Africa and not in detail about what happened with slavery in the West. It depends on where you are and who we are being taught by. I'm thankful that we are even given an opportunity to learn about our African History in this school.

  5. I think that everyone talks about slavery in south america rather than African where it all started is because it wasnt in the media like how it was in the south. I was talking with my mom about it and she said she didnt even know about what happened in Africa. That made me think how uneducated people are about the past. The only reason she didnt know was because African slavery wasnt out there like the slavery in the south.

  6. The fact that North American history is recorded in full allows people to have more knowledge about it. African slavery is also something that is shameful in the black community so maybe it isn't taught in great detail. Also we live in Canada which means that we will learn about there detail in great deal.

  7. the system in africa is not as organized as it is in america we have easier access too information than africans have therefore its harder for them to learn about certain things also the developed cuntries want to keep african striving to be more like them they dont want them to be talking about the horribles they have done to them

  8. We were brought up today and told of our history. We do not know whether or not this is just another fallacy in the book of knowledge we just think and go along with whatever is told, we as people rarely argue the simple fact of thought. We need more then just a couple of words to understand something in a whole now a days, we seem to forget the triangular trade from pages 90-91 which fully shows the slavery in a whole, and how it goes to show you that the slavery in the South came from the Africans, and that we never even thought for a second that we'd be in trouble as to history and its interpretation. When people fail to realize the true meaning of slavery and how it extended all throughout the world, we seem dumbfounded. And stuck with all those other hyprocrites and liars as to how we can re-group as people and note which of these times of slavery had a bigger impact, nay I say which had the bigger impact..

  9. The South and North slavery was recorded and this is taught to us in school and at home. No one recorded or wrote anything about the African slavery. We have no accuses to that information.

  10. First of all I think this Question is some what bias against black people, and I also thing people tend to hide how they really feel by saying things like “Go back to Africa” or that “there’s slavery in Africa too, that no one talks about” which I think is BULLSHIT!!! . I think some white people are afraid that we’ll see through their racism and destroy it.
